Dear Dunfee Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to another fantastic year at LMDS! I am excited to be your new principal and look forward to getting to know you.  For those of you who are new to LMDS like me, your child is part of a very special place and welcome to our family!  While I have been an administrator in Barnegat the past thirteen years, Dunfee’s reputation as a family orientated school is something I am very familiar with! And to our returning families and staff, thank you for your dedication to making Dunfee the best! You’ll be hearing a lot from me in the coming weeks, but I want to make sure we cover a few basics in this introductory letter.

Below is information about new staff and staff assignments, a refresher on our vision, as well as a little bit more about my background. For the past six years I have been the principal at the Russell O. Brackman Middle School, and the seven years prior to that, Brackman’s Vice Principal, and I am honored to take on the principal role at the Lillian M. Dunfee Elementary School. I have two daughters of my own and I am very thankful for the wonderful perspective fatherhood brings to my job as a leader and listener; every aspect of your child’s experience here is from the perspective as a parent as well as an educator. I am committed to ensuring that your child is engaged in innovative and joyful learning experiences. My belief is that Dunfee will shape its students into global citizens ready to embrace opportunities for continuous growth and leadership wherever they go.

Upon being hired in the summer, many of our staff came together to create a new theme aligned with the vision of our wonderful school; this year’s theme will be, “Be Someone’s Hero: Dunfee Dragon’s R.O.A.R.,” and our annual parade will be September 28th at 9:15AM.  We conducted surveys and held working meetings in developing and enhancing our special programs. During the school year, I will host monthly Principal Round Table meetings for parents to provide input, ask questions, and have a voice in helping us provide the best opportunities for our learners.  Please let me know what you think – I welcome questions and want to hear your ideas about how to bring this vision to life.

I would also like to welcome the following new professionals to our building: Susan Bentley, Main Office Secretary, Brianne Lombardi, Maternity Leave replacement for Grade 2- Lauren Hawtin, Sarah Silva, Maternity Leave replacement for Grade 4 - Carrie Lioudis, Laurel Rutter, Maternity Leave replacement for Computers - Danielle Peregman, Susan Fraim, Cafeteria/Playground Aide, Joann Cline, Cafeteria/Playground Aide. You will have a chance to meet our teachers at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 27th from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.

I look forward to getting to know you and working to make Dunfee the best school for your child.

Sincerely,

John Fiorentino Principal

Lillian M. Dunfee Elementary School
