Teacher Bio

Dear Parents and Guardians,

My name is Mrs. Maureen Tyrrell. I have been the Lillian M. Dunfee Elementary School Nurse since September, 2002. I have been a Registered Nurse since 1986 starting my career at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in the intensive care unit. Following a move to New Jersey to be closer to family, I joined the Overlook Hospital pediatric team in Summit, New Jersey as a floor nurse in February, 1988. In 1993, I transferred to the "Valerie Center" at Overlook working with children (and their families) battling pediatric cancer and other blood disorders. My experience in the Valerie Center was one of the most rewarding of my life. After a family move in 1997 to the Barnegat Shore area, I joined the Children's Specialized Hospital Team in Toms River on the long term care unit. These children were a continuous inspiration for me. Unexpectedly, I was asked if I would be interested in school substitute nursing in the Barnegat Township schools. I was becoming weary of working nights, so traded in my night job for a new challenge. I became a substitute nurse, took a part-time position at the Russell O. Brackman Middle School for one year, went back to school to obtain my School Nurse certification and Master's Degree in School Nursing and here I am. I love coming to work every day to care for your children and your families. If there is anything I can do for you at any time, please feel free to call me. If I don't know the answer, I will find it for you. Thank-you for allowing me to care for your children.

Respectfully,
Maureen Tyrrell, MSN, BSN, RN
