Welcome to the Lillian M. Dunfee School web page! Please check out the monthly Principal's letter, school happenings under the Headlines section, and teacher web pages. The Lillian M. Dunfee Elementary School prides itself on maintaining a hometown feel while forging a strong bond with the entire community. Most importantly, our staff and students work hard to meet the rigors and demands of the Common Core Standards in a safe, positive school environment where risk taking is encouraged and applauded. Each year, a school wide theme is shared with students, staff, parents, and the entire community which is our driving force towards excellence. Our school-wide theme, Unlock the Possibilities: Dunfee Dragons R.O.A.R. (Respectful, Optimistic, Awesome Achievers and Responsible) , was the statement imparted to the entire Dunfee School community during the 2014/15 school year. By working together, we were able to foster a confidence in our students that allowed them to realize any dream can come true with hard work and perseverance. In addition, our Dunfee Dragon's R.O.A.R. program received one of three Best Practices Award at the United Nations in January, 2014 at the CTAUN Conference.
Building on the previous year's motto, our theme for the 2015/16 school year was Travel the Road to Success: Dunfee Dragons R.O.A.R.. We continued to employ Positive Behavior Support in Schools strategies to promote consistent expectations in all school settings, thus increasing on-task behavior and maximizing instructional time. Students and teachers set goals along the "road to success" to meet their fullest potentials. This year, we instituted a Bucket Fillers component, which will further reinforce our R.O.A.R. expectations by placing a focus on being kind, considerate, and caring to all.
For the 2016/17 school year, I am excited to introduce our school's theme as Invent to Learn.
This is how our R.O.A.R. program works! Students never know when a R.O.A.R. ticket will be presented to them by a staff member. Grade level mailboxes are mounted in our hallways where students place any R.O.A.R. tickets they receive throughout the week. We even have a staff member mailbox, where teachers and staff can place R.O.A.R. tickets that they receive from students, parents, or their colleagues! On Fridays, names of R.O.A.R. ticket winners are read over the P.A. system and prizes awarded. Needless to say, all staff members encourage our students to reach for the stars as they travel the road to success!
Please feel free to contact me at any time should you have any questions or concerns.
